Oral Hygiene and Gum Therapy
Your hygienist will evaluate your gum health and consult with the dentist to determine the best type of cleaning that is necessary for you. We will teach you proper brushing techniques and show you options for cleaning between the teeth. Measurements are taken around each tooth to determine the health of your gums. 1-3mm is healthy. Anything above 3mm may require gum therapy. Gum therapy can be scaling and root planning, where the hygienist removes the plaque below the gum line that is causing periodontal disease. Often laser treatment and antibiotics placed in the deeper pockets will be recommended as an additional therapy. The doctor and hygienist will determine the best treatment plan for you. A re-care plan of 3, 4 or 6 months intervals will be recommended specifically for you. The health of your mouth is directly related to the health of your body. Therefore treating gum disease is very important in maintaining your heart and total body health.
