Before you get your dental implants
If your gums and jawbone have been damaged due to gum disease, decay or trauma we will want to treat these issues before we begin the process of dental implants. Periodontal (gum disease) therapy treats the bacterial infection and can reverse the consequences of tissue and bone loss. Teeth that have been compromised by decay but still have healthy tooth structure remaining can be treated with tooth-colored fillings or crowns. Teeth that have become infected may require root canal treatment (endodontics). If your jaw bone has been compromised and will not be able to hold a dental implant, we can discuss the option of bone grafting prior to implant placement. The important thing is that the foundational structures of your mouth are healthy enough to support your dental implants. Once you are determined to be healthy to proceed, we can begin the implant process.
Why replace missing teeth?
Missing teeth can not only cause embarrassment, but they can also be problematic for the entire structure of your mouth and jaw. Left unreplaced, missing teeth can cause your other teeth to move and shift and the underlying jawbone deteriorates without the support of the tooth root. That’s why missing teeth should be replaced as soon as possible, ideally with dental implants.
Our doctors are highly trained to provide durable, natural looking dental implant solutions from the comfort of your family dental office. Implants provide secure anchors for replacement teeth that feel and function just like the real thing, whether it’s a single tooth, a bridge, or a full set of implant-supported dentures.
How the procedure works
Once you get the green-light to move forward with a dental implant, its normal to feel excited and nervous! We will help you from start-to-finish and you will be comfortable physically, emotionally, and mentally for your procedure. We will start with any level of dental sedation you request. Then, we will begin by surgically placing a medical-grade tooth-root replacement in the jawbone where your natural tooth would be. Once that has healed, you will come back for the placement of a beautiful tooth.
When you come back for the placement appointment, know that the tooth is made from durable, natural-looking materials that are not susceptible to decay or staining. They look and feel just like natural teeth, and once fully healed you can eat and drink anything you like! Nothing beats the way a natural smile feels, and dental implants offer the most natural and durable solution to missing teeth.
