Crowns and Bridges
Crowns
Crowns are used for a variety of reasons and it is a very common dental procedure. Crowns are a full coverage “cap” that encompasses the entire tooth. A crown restores the tooth to its normal shape, size, and function. Crowns can be warranted if a tooth is broken, if a tooth had a root canal and needs protection from breaking or to change the size, shape and color of your teeth. You may need a crown if a tooth has a cavity that is too large for a filling, a cracked or worn down tooth, if a tooth had a root canal or you want to cover a discolored or badly shaped tooth to improve your smile. The dentist will anesthetize your tooth and prepare the tooth in a way that the crown can seat over your tooth.
The dentist will anesthetize your tooth and prepare the tooth in a way that the crown can seat over your tooth. There are different types of crowns we offer. All porcelain crowns are very aesthetic and can be made in the office while you wait. Porcelain to metal crowns and full gold crowns can be done as well. The dentist will recommend what type of crown will be best for you and if you need a temporary crown. The dentist will place the crown in your mouth, make necessary adjustments and verify the fit with a digital x-ray.
The dentist considers many factors when choosing the best crown for you such as the location and function of the tooth, the position of the gum tissue, the amount of tooth that shows in your smile and the color and shade of your tooth. A crown can make the tooth stronger and will restore it to its original function.
Cosmetically crowns can be used on the front teeth to make a beautiful smile.
Bridges
When a tooth is missing a bridge can be a great option. Bridges can fill in space where your tooth is missing and can be very aesthetic. Bridges also can be all porcelain, gold or porcelain to metal. The dentist will decide if a bridge is a good option for you.
